Gaithersburg Announces 2007 Citizen Police Academy

From the City’s website:

The Gaithersburg Police Department is now accepting applications for its Citizen Police Academy which begins Thursday, May 3, 2007.  Weekly sessions will be held at the City Police facility, located at 14 Fulks Corner Avenue, from 7 to 9:30 p.m. every Thursday night through June 28.   Class size is limited to 16 residents who must be at least 16 years of age.  The deadline for applications is Monday, April 23.

During the Academy, participants will learn about law enforcement techniques and practices, traffic collision investigation, patrol operations, drug enforcement, crime prevention, community policing, and other topics.  There will even be some practical demonstrations outside the classroom.

“The Gaithersburg Police Department is completely committed to the philosophies of community-oriented and problem-oriented policing.  This Academy is just one of the many ways that our officers and civilian members interact and work with members of our community to make Gaithersburg a great place in which to live, work, or play,” said Chief Mary Ann Viverette.

Aggressive burglaries continue

Saturday, April 07, 2007
Burglary
04/07/2007 at 5:45 a.m. Montgomery County Police responded to an alarm at 811 Russell Ave #A. Upon arrival a smashed out front door was discovered. Unknown amount of property taken.

Friday, April 06, 2007
Attempted Burglary
On 04/06/07, at 11:25 p.m., police responded to the 800 block of Suffield Dr. for an attempted burglary. Upon arrival, the rear door window was found smashed. A witness stated that a male suspect tried to kick the door in, and left the scene in an unknown make and model SUV.

Suspect is described as an unknown race male, wearing a gray hooded coat and blue pants.

811 Russell is just north of Montgomery Village Ave; Suffield Dr is in a townhouse community between Great Seneca & Muddy Branch, near where they intersect.
