Recent City Police Crime Reports, with Interactive Map

The City Police have posted a few more crimes, including another armed robbery on Wednesday; these are posted below.

I’ve also begun to put together a database of these crimes, so that I can post them in an interactive map form. My first stab at this is included below; if your browser supports the Google Maps API (Internet Explorer and Firefox should work), you should see a map of central Gaithersburg with several place markers of various colors. This should have controls so that you can pan and zoom around in the map, and if you click on any of the markers, it should bring up a description of the crime, taken from the City’s Crime Summary. So far, I’ve only gone back about three weeks, and I have yet to include any of the County reports of City crimes not handled by the City police.

The marker colors are abitrary, but should be consistent by crime, e.g. robberies are red, burglaries are light blue, assaults are dark blue/purple, etc. Let me know what you think. If your browser (or RSS reader) doesn’t support Google Maps, then you should simply see a bunch of lines with the word “map”. I currently have no way to put up a static map for such browsers, sorry.
