  • Chris Robinson writes, Man wanted in series of robberies, sex assaults:

    Victims include an 11-year-old girl, a 39-year-old woman who was with her 2-year-old daughter, and a 25-year-old woman who was with her 6-year-old child, police said.

    The physical description of the assailant matched in each of the 10 incidents that occurred in an about 1-mile radius around West Deer Park Road and West Diamond Avenue, said Gaithersburg police spokesman Sgt. Rudy Wagner.

  • Chris Robinson writes, Gaithersburg man stabbed in robbery:

    A 46-year-old Gaithersburg man was stabbed late June 29 after he attempted to flee from a group of men who had robbed him, police said.

    The man was walking home at 11:30 p.m. in the 400 block of Victory Farm Road when he was stopped by a group of four men, ages 18 to 20, according to a statement from Gaithersburg police.

  • Sebastian Montes writes, Police tweak ban rules for upcoming fair:

    Police will once again man the gates at next month’s county fair to prevent known gang members from entering the grounds, but this time with a small change in procedure.

    County officers will no longer use a regional database that stores peoples’ names until police have confirmed no gang activity for five years to verify gang membership.

  • Chris Robinson writes, Raccoon is second rabid animal found in Gaithersburg this year:

    A raccoon found June 27 in the 100 block of Russell Avenue, near Route 355 in north Gaithersburg, tested positive for rabies.

    Seniors are applauding a proposal that triples the space originally allotted in a north Gaithersburg mixed-use development for a new senior center.

  • Chris Robinson writes, Broadstone tenants near agreement with City officials on relocation plans:

    With city leaders expected next week to green light a redevelopment project that could displace hundreds of families, Gaithersburg officials and Broadstone apartments tenants are working to complete a relocation assistance agreement.

  • Melissa A. Chadwick writes, Study finds ‘pent-up demand’ for multi-use arena in county:

    A sports and entertainment arena in Montgomery County could bring in an estimated $7.5 million in net revenue a year, according to a feasibility study commissioned by the Maryland Stadium Authority and released Friday.

    In November, county officials mentioned several upcounty sites as possibilities, including the Maryland SoccerPlex in Boyds, the Montgomery County Fairgrounds in Gaithersburg and the Germantown campus of Montgomery College.

  • Chris Robinson writes, Gaithersburg officer is top dog:

    Gaithersburg Animal Control Officer Jorge Esmieu is the top dog in Maryland after receiving the Maryland Municipal Employee of the Year award last week from the Maryland Municipal League.

    Residents headed on vacation for more than three days can call on Gaithersburg police to keep an eye on their place this summer.

    This is a great service, although I think that they won’t do it unless no one is ever expected to be in your house while you’re gone. If you are having someone come by to feed pets, water plants, etc., the chances for confusion would be too high.

    The artist responsible for applying surrealist imagery to the Community Bridge in Frederick will lend his brush to the façade of Gaithersburg’s historic Belt Building at 227 E. Diamond Ave.
