Update: County Police have identified both the driver and the victim:

At 8:55 p.m. yesterday evening, a pedestrian, identified as Jerry Joseph Sandy, age 51, of the 16900 block of Briardale Road in Rockville, was attempting to cross Muddy Branch Rd at Killarney Lane in Gaithersburg. There is no crosswalk at that location and Muddy Branch Road is separated by a grassy median with a metal guardrail. Jerry Sandy was attempting to cross the roadway with a female companion when he was struck by a gold 1998 Toyota Camry heading westbound on Muddy Branch Road. The driver, identified as Weina Zhang, age 47, of the 500 block of West Diamond
Avenue in Gaithersburg, remained on the scene.

Pedestrian Killed in Gaithersburg

Investigators from the Montgomery County Police Collision Reconstruction Unit are investigating a fatal collision involving a pedestrian in Gaithersburg tonight. At 8:55 pm on Thursday, May 8th 2008, a pedestrian was attempting to cross Muddy Branch Rd at Killarney Lane. There is no crosswalk at that location and Muddy Branch Road is separated by a grassy median with a metal guardrail. The pedestrian, (only identified as a 51 year old white male from Derwood), was attempting to cross the roadway with a female companion when he was struck by a silver Toyota Camry vehicle heading westbound on Muddy Branch Road. The driver of the striking vehicle remained on the scene, (identified as an Asian female from Gaithersburg).

If there are any witnesses to the collision or if anyone stopped to render aid to the pedestrian, they are asked to contact the Montgomery County Collision Reconstruction unit at 301-840-2435 Investigators will determine the cause of the collision and any contributing circumstances, including illumination and alcohol.

This is the sixth pedestrian killed in Montgomery County in 2008.
