STATE POLICE CHARGE MAN FOR THREAT AGAINST GOVERNOR

(Gaithersburg, MD) - A Montgomery County man has been charged by state police investigators with making threats against Governor Martin O’Malley.

James A. Frost, 64, of the 100-block of Billingsgate Lane in Gaithersburg, Maryland was charged with threatening to injure Governor Martin O’Malley. He was processed at the Rockville Barracks and is currently being held at the Montgomery County Correctional Facility.

On August 13, 2008, troopers from the Rockville Barrack received information from the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office regarding Frost’s plans to bring harm to several elected officials. Information was received listing Governor Martin O’Malley, U.S. Senator Barbara Mikulski and U.S. Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton as potential targets, along with other family members and friends.

At approximately 10:30 p.m. last night, troopers from the Rockville Barrack and the Homeland Security Investigation Bureau obtained an arrest warrant from the Montgomery County Commissioner’s Office. Troopers responded to Frost’s residence and attempted to make contact with Frost who apparently refused to open the door. Eventually, Frost opened the door and was placed under arrest. He was transported to the Rockville Barracks for processing and later transported to the Montgomery County Detention Center.

Frost’s residence is currently being secured by troopers from the Rockville Barrack pending the execution of a search and seizure warrant by state police investigators, members of the U.S. Secret Service and U.S. Capitol Police. The Maryland State Police Executive Protection Unit, Homeland Security Intelligence Bureau and the Montgomery County State’s Attorney’s Office have been notified and are assisting with the ongoing investigation.
