Detectives Make Arrest in Montgomery Village Shooting
Montgomery County Police detectives from the 5th/6th District Investigative Section have continued to investigate the shooting that occurred on August 19, 2008 at approximately 10:10 p.m. in the 9900 block of Ridgeline Drive in Montgomery Village.
Through the course of the preliminary investigation a suspect, Darrell Andre Shanton, was developed and a warrant was obtained for attempted first-degree murder, first-degree assault, reckless endangerment, and possession of a handgun during the commission of a felony. Shanton, age 34, of the 600 block of North Prospect Street in Hagerstown was arrested on August 29.
On August 19, 2008, 6th District officers responded to the 9900 block of Ridgeline Drive for the report of shots fired. As officers began their investigation several neighbors stated that they heard what they thought were gunshots. Blood was observed on the sidewalk. During the investigation an individual arrived who stated that he had just taken a friend suffering from gunshot wounds to a local hospital. The victim, a 19-year-old male from Montgomery Village, was suffering from life-threatening injuries and was flown from that hospital to an area trauma center. He was in critical condition however he is now expected to survive.
