Gaithersblog readers may recall County’s press release last month about a nighttime burglary trend. Two arrests have now been made in this case.

Detectives from the 5th/6th District Investigative Section have charged two suspects for burglary and theft of a vehicle that occurred on February 11, 2009 in the Gaithersburg area. Detectives believe they may be responsible for the numerous nighttime burglaries where vehicles were stolen that have been occurring since mid December 2008.
On Wednesday, February 11, 2009 at approximately 4:16 a.m., Montgomery County Police 6th District officers received a report of a burglary where a vehicle was stolen in the 8700 block of Snow Valley Court in Gaithersburg.
A short time later, a Rockville City Police officer was patrolling in the area of route 370 and Shady Grove Road and spotted the stolen vehicle driven by two suspects. The officer followed the vehicle to the area of Story Drive in Gaithersburg where the two suspects stopped the vehicle and bailed out. Officers were able to apprehend Jesse Kackley, age 19, of the 18300 block of Honey Locust Drive in Gaithersburg.
Through the course of the investigation, a warrant was obtained on February 11 for the second suspect, Malcolm Edwards, age 21, of no fixed address. He was apprehended on February 13 at an address on Chadburn Place in Montgomery Village.
Jesse Kackley was charged with first-degree burglary, conspiracy to commit first-degree burglary, theft over $500, conspiracy to commit theft over $500, motor vehicle theft, conspiracy to commit motor vehicle theft, unauthorized removal of property, and conspiracy to commit unauthorized removal of property. Malcolm Edwards was charged with first-degree burglary, conspiracy to commit first-degree burglary, theft over $500, conspiracy to commit theft over $500, motor vehicle theft, and conspiracy to commit motor vehicle theft. Both are being held at the Montgomery County Correctional Facility in Clarksburg. Kackley is being held on $81,500 bond. Edwards is being held on $355,000 bond. Further charges may be pending for both Kackley and Edwards in connection with the earlier burglaries and vehicle thefts.
